Nonprofits partner to host second annual college readiness workshop for middle and high school students
Cupcakes & Conversations: College Discoveries, Saturday at 2pm
WHAT: More than 130 middle and high school students and their parents/guardians registered to attend Cupcakes & Conversations: College Discoveries, where they will engage with a panel of college students as they share their campus experience, answer questions and provide advice on the best ways to prepare for life after grade school. Our panel is mostly comprised of alumni from The Education Foundation’s Take Stock in Children program.
Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with local college resources and hear from experts:
LaVerne Handfield, Florida College Access Network (FCAN) on college readiness
Tia Brock, The Education Foundation on scholarships and financial aid
The University of Florida Police Department on campus safety
There will be raffles, prizes, and refreshments, including cupcakes – all at no charge.

This two-part Discoveries Series, comprised of College Discoveries and Career Discoveries, were each organized to share information with students and their parents/legal guardians about educational and career pathways. This year’s fifth annual Career Discoveries, hosted by the Greater Gainesville Chamber’s Alachua County Education Compact, is taking place on Nov. 16th from 9am to noon at Buchholz High School, 5510 NW 27th Ave., Gainesville, FL.
