While it has been a tough year with the COVID-19 virus dominating everyone’s life, organizations looking to help people are seeing increased demand for services as traditional funding sources dry up.
Fundraising events beyond March were canceled, and for many nonprofits survival became extremely difficult. The Community Foundation of North Central Florida is offering some hope — over the next 24 hours.
The Community Foundation’s big event, The Amazing Give, originally scheduled for April, is back four months later and has its big kickoff at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday.
For the next 24 hours, there will be online giving for 112 nonprofit organizations, uniting them in a call for action to raise critical funds needed to continue so their service to others continues.
“We are very excited about the Amazing Give,” said Shareen Baptiste, who along with Joanne Karagnara, Patrice Fletcher and La’Kendra Garrison run Dream on Purpose, an empowerment movement for girls 11-18. “When COVID first hit, the amount of funds we were receiving and events we planned were canceled. We were worried about the future, considering our financial situation.”
The Community Foundation stepped in.
