Need financial aid for college? Check this out

Free sessions for one-on-one help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly known as FAFSA, begin for Alachua County on Thursday, thanks to the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce’s Alachua County Education Compact.

Through the Cash for College initiative, current or prospective students and their families can learn about the financial benefits of completing FAFSA, get counseling and computer access to fill out the form itself and receive a $25 gift card for completing an application at one of the six sessions, according to Ian Fletcher, the chamber’s chief operating officer.

“A lot of kids feel like, ‘I can’t go to college because I don’t have the money to pay for it,’” Fletcher said. “The financial aid form can be a daunting task when you sit down and look at it … We want to educate them that there’s an option.”
